Course at Tallinn Folk University, which includes five meetings on Tuesdays 23.04, 30.04, 14.05, 21.05, 4.06.

The aim of the course is to introduce and give the opportunity to experience how body and mind processes can be influenced through diet, breathing, meditation and small changes in habits. In addition, to learn to notice and observe signs in digestion, tongue and skin and to use them in self-diagnosis.

Course content

Knowledge, skills and attitudes from the Ayurvedic tradition that increase well-being and improve health in everyday life. Participants will gain a theoretical overview of the principles of Ayurveda and practical skills and experience on how to create contentment and health in everyday life, including cooking, breathing techniques and meditation.

The course alternates lecture format with practical workshops. Simple homework assignments will be given to reinforce the habit of self-monitoring and the practices learned. The course consists of six sessions, of which the second and fourth are mainly practical:

  • In the second session, we will do a “being” yoga class, which will lead to a natural state of meditation. For this class, we ask you to dress appropriately and comfortably for the yoga class and to bring your own shawl.
  • In the fourth session, we will prepare together the “healing food” known in Ayurveda, kitcheri.

    • What is health and who is a healthy person, according to Ayurveda
    • How to read the body’s signs that tell us about our health status
    • Metabolism, cleansing and balancing the body
    • The unity of body and mind, their different interests
    • Nutrition and peace of mind, ghee and kitcher making
    • Breathing techniques and the teaching of meditation according to Ayurveda
