What is Panchakarma?
Panchakarma is Ayurveda’s most profound cleansing and rejuvenating health treatment. During the retreat, we will undergo the panchakarma process in a supportive environment away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The word itself means ‘five actions’ in Sanskrit — five purifying procedures through which the body is rids of metabolic waste. In Ayurveda, this is not a single procedure, but a guided process that is tailored to a person’s constitutional type and current state of imbalance.
The process unfolds in three stages. The preparatory phase softens the tissues through oil therapy (snehana) and warming procedures (svedana), so that waste products are directed towards the digestive tract. This is followed by cleansing procedures. Finally, there is the aftercare phase: simple, warm food, herbal supplements and a daily routine designed to restore the digestive fire, or agni.
A home retreat follows the same logic in a gentler form: we carry out the procedures ourselves under guidance, the food is simple, and the day is structured around rest — yoga and pranayama in the morning, procedures and discussion groups during the day, and silence in the evening.
The retreat is suitable for anyone who feels tired even after a holiday, whose digestion is disrupted, or who wishes to recover from a prolonged period of stress. It is neither a spa week nor a weight-loss programme.
Panchakarma is not suitable during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding, in the event of an acute illness, or immediately after surgery. If you have a chronic condition or are on long-term medication, we will discuss before registration whether, and in what form, the retreat is suitable for you.
The effects unfold gradually over the weeks following the retreat. That is why the retreat includes personalised support upon departure — guidance on how to reintroduce food and what daily routine will help maintain the benefits achieved.

Panchakarma retreat in India
For those seeking a longer and deeper inner journey, panchakarma in Kerala – the home of Ayurveda – is the ideal choice. At the centre, the doctor will draw up your treatment plan on the very first day, and the following two weeks will unfold in a steady rhythm: morning yoga, treatments and massages, simple food, and days of purification, after which the body and mind are noticeably revitalised. You can read one participant’s diary from their January 2025 trip on the blog.
There are two ways to get to Kerala. If you’re going independently, I’ll help you choose the right centre and provide an introduction before you travel, which will make the process much easier. Or you can come with me: I’ll be taking a small group and will be on hand to support you throughout the retreat.
Next group to Kerala: 30 December 2026 – 15 January 2027. Booking early means cheaper flights and better options at the centre. The price and exact programme are still to be confirmed — drop me a line and we’ll discuss whether and when this trip would suit you.
